WELCOME

President Jeff Hagstrom welcomed all to the June 1^st meeting of the Brattleboro Rotary Club held at the American Legion in Brattleboro. John Kohler offered a meaningful invocation.This was followed by the pledge of allegiance. Birthday greetings were extended to Cyndi Ferrante.

As a luncheon of curried chicken, pork loin, potatoes, chickpeas, salad, humus, rolls and cookies for dessert was being digested, the meeting continued.

The village blacksmith hired an enthusiastic new apprentice who was willing to work long, hard hours. He instructed the boy, “When I take the shoe out of the fire, I’ll lay it on the anvil. When I nod my head, you hit it with a hammer.” The apprentice did exactly as he was told, and now he’s the new village blacksmith.

As we waited for a bus in the frosty weather, the woman next to me mentioned that she makes a lot of mistakes when texting in the cold. I nodded knowingly. “It’s the early signs of typothermia.”

ROTARY MINUTE

For our Rotary Minute, Marcy Jones talked about the number of US Presidents connected to Rotary International. Harding was the only member. However, there were 10 honorary members: Wilson, Hoover, FDR, Truman, Eisenhower, JFK, Nixon, Reagan, Carter and George W. Bush. Click here for more info.
