WELCOME

President Bill Vermouth welcomed all to the June 13th meeting of the Brattleboro Rotary Club held at the American Legion in Brattleboro. For today’s invocation, George Anthes offered the following quote by Anne Frank:
“Human greatness does not lie in wealth or power, but in character and goodness. People are just people, and all people have faults and shortcomings, but all of us are born with a basic goodness.”

This was followed by the pledge of allegiance. Birthday greetings were extended to Roger Miller and Jenifer Ambler.

As a luncheon of sausage and peppers, stuffed pork loin, squash lasagna, baked potatoes, broccoli medley, cole slaw, salad, rolls and peach melba for dessert was being digested, the meeting continued.

GUESTS: Kate Barry, Teddy Kramer, and Kara Hume

ANSWER TO TRIVIA QUESTION

The title of "oldest college in Vermont" is shared by three institutions. Middlebury College was chartered in 1800 and is Vermont's oldest operating college and the first institution to grant an academic degree (1802). Castleton University has its roots in successive institutions dating to 1787. The University of Vermont was chartered in 1791 but did not begin instruction until 1800 or grant a degree until 1804.
