TRIVIA QUESTION

When did Brattleboro Memorial Hospital  start serving the area?
(Answer below)

JOKE OF THE WEEK

For our joke of the week: The joke of the day was provided by Chris Hart. She read the following 6 questions real lawyers asked in court.   She first made her apologies to lawyers, especially to the one she is sitting with today.
“How many times have you committed suicide?” “Were you alone or by yourself?” “Was it you or your brother who was killed?” “Without saying anything, tell the jury what you did next.” “Was that the same nose you broke as a child?” “Now, doctor, isn’t it true that when a person dies in his sleep, he doesn’t know about it until the next morning?”

ED NOTE: 2021-22 weekly assignments are posted on the club website.

ROTARY MINUTE
For the Rotary Minute, Marcy Jones shared memories of being a member of Rotary for 40 years.  Selling Christmas trees with Tony Burzynski and Bob Gannett.  TV boxes with Keith Clarke.  Remodeling Youth Services with Jesse Corum.  The deck at Memorial Park with Art Greenbaum.  Leftover Christmas trees being thrown over the bank behind his house.  The Rotary Changeover Dinner when Cathy Coonan was thrown into the lake.  The look on Mara Williams face when lightning struck at the B&K Aqua Club at a Rotary Changeover Dinner.  Being a member has had a major impact on Marcy.  He joined in 1983 and in September he worked at the Gun Show.  He signed up to sell hot dogs and ended up running the Gun Show with Tom Johnson and Clyde Johnson for 25 years.  Each year he became a little more interested in the guns and in 1986 he got a federal arms license and he still has it.  He remembers a big moment in 1985 when he was at a Rotary Meeting in West Brattleboro when Ozzie Stowell and Don Stockwell approached him and asked him if he would consider being on the Board of Directors of Brattleboro Savings & Loan.  He said yes and was a board member for the next 25 years.  All of these connections were because of his Rotary membership.  One Rotary member told Marcy that he used to be into hunting and he has been going to Marcy’s hunting camp every year since.

George Anthes gave an update on the Afghan Refugee family.  He bragged for the friends in Sunrise Rotary who were particularly helpful on new housing.  Jim Maxwell and Josh Traeger have lined up the next home for the family in July.  George reported that the family is getting the medical and dental care that they need.  The father has a job almost lined up and should be starting soon.
President Phil reminded everyone that next week is the third Thursday and our meeting will be via Zoom.  He will send out a reminder.  The Board of Directors will be watching to see how the attendance is to determine whether we should continue a monthly Zoom meeting.
There is no charge for the meal at the Road Show at the BUHS Cafeteria on 4/28 but we will still collect $13 per person which will be donated to the District Ukrainian Relief Effort.
Gina Pattison announced that we are still looking for foursomes, sponsors and auction items for our Golf Tournament on June 9th.  Please contact Gina on this.  She sent out the Save the Date postcard and the brochures are being printed.  She will bring the brochures to a Club Meeting when they are done.

The Gift Giving Committee will need to get together to allocate funds.  There has been a donation request from Carol Lolatte for the 4th of July.

BRAGS / HAPPY DOLLARS / Fines
<ED NOTE: Yes, we are keeping track of these happy dollars and brags.
Unless noted, happy dollars and brags are $1>

Rob Spzila had 3 brags:  1)For his first hole in one on the Disc Golf Course.  He was playing with Josh Traeger which meant a lot to him since he has been so involved with the course.  2)For Josh Traeger for his involvement in finding a home for our Afghan family. 3)For his daughter for her great defense on the Lacrosse team.
Cheri Ann Brodhurst for Rob who was so helpful in getting a bike for the Afghan family.  Someone reached out to Cheri Ann about this and she suggested that they contact Rob and it was done.
Cyndi Ferrante for her upcoming trip to Virginia Beach to celebrate her 65th birthday.
Jim Haine for his daughter.  He is very proud of her.
Rick Manson had two brags 1) He ran into Gorty Baldwin last weekend.  Gorty was a member of our Club many years ago and he gave Rick a dollar to brag for the Club. 2)For Cathy Coonan.  It was Rick’s turn to be the scribe today but his handwriting is not so good so Cathy agreed to do it.
Ruben Garza bragged that he attended the Sunrise Monday Night Trivia and his team won first place.  There was a huge turnout and $1200 was given to the Ukrainian Relief Effort.  This made it doubly special because they won.
Mike Mandracchia bragged for Cathy Coonan.  Not only did she agree to be the scribe today but he remembers when she took over managing the Christmas Trees one year for a Past President.
Chris Hart bragged for Rob Szpila and the success of the Disc Golf Course.  She took her dog for a walk in the woods and she kept seeing these funny baskets and people having a great time.  She said it was a wonderful sight to see.
Regina Stefanelli $10 Happy Dollars for her son who is 9 today.
Greg Worden bragged for his guest Gabrielle who would like to get involved in the community.  A lot of people moved to the area during COVID and it is a good opportunity for us to introduce them to others in the community.
