WELCOME

President Jeff Hagstrom welcomed all to the May 11^th meeting of the Brattleboro Rotary Club held at the American Legion in Brattleboro. Phil George offered a meaningful invocation about Mother’s Day. This was followed by the pledge of allegiance. Birthday greetings were extended to Jeff Hagstrom.

As a luncheon of meat loaf, turkey stew, carrots, carrots & raisin salad, rice with peppers, salad, and blonde brownies for dessert was being digested, the meeting continued.

JOKE / SONG OF THE WEEK

For our Rotary joke, Rick Manson told a version of the following:

A lawyer's dog, runs around town unleashed, heads for a butcher shop and steals a roast. An angry butcher goes to the lawyer's office and politely asks, "If a dog running unleashed steals a piece of meat from my store, do I have a right to demand payment for the meat from the dog's owner?" The lawyer smiles and answers, "Absolutely." "Then you owe me $8.50. Your dog was unleashed and stole a roast from me today." The lawyer, without a word, writes the butcher a check for $8.50. The butcher, having a feeling of satisfaction, leaves. Three days later, the butcher finds a bill from the lawyer: $100 due for a consultation.

ROTARY MINUTE

For our Rotary Minute, Cindy Jerome explained why she doesn’t recite the pledge of allegiance at Rotary meetings. No, it’s not because she forgot the words. Rather, after attending Rotary convention in Montreal, she realized that Rotary is an international organization that needs to welcome all at its meetings.
