WELCOME

President George Weir welcomed all to the August 17^th meeting of the Brattleboro Rotary Club held at the American Legion in Brattleboro. (ED NOTE: President George had a setback on his microphone skills). Betsy Gentile asked for a moment of silence for our country. This was followed by the pledge of allegiance. Birthday greetings were extended to Joe Little.

As a luncheon of chicken, ham, broccoli, rice, tofu with green beans, salad, bread, and cookies for dessert was being digested, the meeting continued.

JOKE OF THE WEEK

For our Rotary joke, Marty Cohn told a version of the following:

The Abbot of the Monastery was very strict in his routine. Each morning, he'd come out of his cell, go into the main room where all the monks were sitting, and chant "Good Morning." They would chant back "Good Morning." At the evening meal, he'd enter the room and sing "Good Evening," and they would reply in kind. One morning, though, in response to his greeting, he distinctly heard one monk sing "Good Evening." Wondering if his ears were going, he sang "Good Morning," only to hear the anomalous greeting again. Looking about the room, he sang "Someone Chanted 'Evening.'"
