WELCOME

President Carla Lineback welcomed all to the August 29th meeting of the Brattleboro Rotary Club held at the American Legion in Brattleboro. <ED NOTE: President Carla could not show off her bell ringing skills because there was not a bell.> Marty Cohn offered the following meaningful invocation:
May those assembled here today enjoy the many offerings of Rotary. May we abide by the rules we have established, those of trust, fellowship and ethics, and may we place Service Above Self, in our daily endeavors. And may we always test ourselves and our efforts to be sure they are the truth, good for all concerned, of benefit to mankind, and provide peace and understanding. Amen.

This was followed by the pledge of allegiance.  As a luncheon of baked chicken, quiche with sausage, quiche without sausage, broccoli, rice, fruit salad, green salad, bread, and chocolate brownies for dessert was being digested, the meeting continued.

GUESTS: Visiting Rotarian Val Stuart (Sunrise), Kaitlin Pattison, Wendy Ferris, Vicky Case, and Buzz Schmidt (speaker).

TRIVIA QUESTION

Who is the “father” of disc golf?

 (Answer below.)

JOKE OF THE WEEK

For today’s joke, Rhonda Calhoun offered a version of the following:

Two women meet up in heaven.
1st Woman: Hello! My name is Maggie.

2nd Woman: Hello! I'm Sylvia. How'd you die?

1st Woman: I froze to death.

2nd Woman: How awful!

1st Woman: It wasn't so bad. After I stopped shaking from the cold, I began to get warm and sleepy and finally died a peaceful death. What about you?

2nd Woman: I died of a massive heart attack. I suspected my husband was cheating, so I came home early to catch him in the act. But instead I found him all by himself in the house watching TV.

1st Woman: So what happened?

2nd Woman: I was so sure there was another woman somewhere that I started running all over the house looking. I ran up into the attic and searched and then down into the cellar. I went through each
wardrobe and checked under all the beds. I kept this up until I had looked everywhere, and finally I became
so exhausted that I just keeled over with a heart attack and died.

1st Woman: Too bad you didn't look in the freezer. We'd both still be alive.

At our Sept. 5th meeting, Marty Cohn will tell a joke or lead us in song and Cathy Coonan will offer a Rotary Minute.

ROTARY MINUTE

For the Rotary Minute, Jeremy Coleman offered an “elevator speech” to answer the question: “What is Rotary?”
Rotary is a service organization that provides extensive service to our community in the form of community projects and donations such as scholarships for local students, construction assistance for nonprofits in need, and countless other activities. We also provide significant international support for organizations such as Pure Water for the Water, and support for poor communities world-wide, such as the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Not to mention, we have a terrific time at our weekly meetings.
