President Rob Szpila opened the meeting at our lunch meeting site: Holiday Inn Express & Suites Brattleboro, an IHG Hotel, 100 Chickering Dr, Brattleboro, VT. Rob welcomed all to the July 18, 2024 meeting of the Brattleboro Rotary www.brattlebororotaryclub.org
Invocation:
Presented by George
The New Colossus
BY EMMA LAZARUS
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
Rob lead the club with the Pledge of Allegiance

PROGRAM
Betsy introduced Theresa Glabach, presenting Girls on the Run
Theresa was a student Rotarian in our club. She noted the lasting impression on the young girls for self confidense and positive mental health benefits of the Girls on the Run program. Theresa set a goal during the running season to run a mile in all 256 towns in Vermont. The goal was seen and appreciated by the girls. Theresa's favorate town was where the final girl's 5k run took place and seeing the competitive spirit coupled with desire to help one another. Theresa broke the old 182 day record with her now standing record of 77 days and 15 minutes. We are hoping to see Theresa more in our club, hopefully as a member.
