WELCOME

President Bill Vermouth welcomed all to the January 3rd meeting of the Brattleboro Rotary Club held at the Brattleboro Retreat in Brattleboro. In addition to Dr. Louis Josephson, Brattleboro Retreat President and CEO, Stan Nowakowski champion of the Vermont Foodbank project and President Bill welcomed members and guests to the meeting. Sophia Howlett offered a meaningful invocation by John Keats:

We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
and know the place for the first time.
Through the unknown, remembered gate
When the last of earth left to discover
Is that which was the beginning;
At the source of the longest river
The voice of the hidden waterfall
And the children in the apple-tree
Not known, because not looked for
But heard, half-heard, in the stillness
Between two waves of the sea.
Quick now, here, now, always –
A condition of complex simplicity
(costing not less than everything)
And all shall be well and
All manner of thing shall be well
When the tongues of flame are in-folder
In the crown knot of fire
and the fire and the rose are one.

This was followed by the pledge of allegiance. Birthday greetings were extended to Marcy Jones, Milt Gilmore and Greg Worden.

As a luncheon of grilled chicken, meat lasagna, vegetable lasagna, wild rice, broccoli, salad, rolls and tiramisu for dessert was being digested, the meeting continued.

GUESTS: Visiting Rotarian Tristam Johnson (Sunrise), Konstantin von Krusenstiern, Melanie Winters and Cor Trowbridge (speaker)

JOKE

There was no joke this week. ;-(

<ED NOTE: For bulletin readers: Two campers were hiking in the forest when all of a sudden a bear jumps out of a bush and starts chasing them. Both campers start running for their lives, when one of them stops and starts to put on his running shoes. His partner says, "What are you doing? You can't outrun a bear!" His friend replies, "I don't have to outrun the bear, I only have to outrun you!">
