WELCOME

President Bill Vermouth welcomed all to the May 23rd meeting of the Brattleboro Rotary Club held at the American Legion in Brattleboro. For today’s invocation, Jerry Theberge offered the following attributed to Buddha:
Believe nothing merely because you have been told it or because it is traditional, or because you yourselves have imagined it. Do not believe what your teacher tells you merely out of respect for the teacher. But whatsoever, after due examination and analysis, you find to be conducive to the good, the benefit, the welfare of all beings that doctrine believe and cling to, and take it as your guide.

This was followed by the pledge of allegiance.

As a luncheon of pulled chicken, meatloaf, tofu, broccoli, baked beans, salad, rolls and blueberry cobbler for dessert was being digested, the meeting continued.

ANSWER TO TRIVIA QUESTION

In August 1910, Rotarians gathered in Chicago for their first national convention. The existing 16 clubs unified as the National Association of Rotary Clubs and elected Rotary founder Paul P. Harris as the organization's first president. Harris served two terms the only president to do so. For more info, click here.
