Frank Rucker introduced Mark Speno, the Superintendent of Schools in Brattleboro and a prospective new member.
Dart Everett introduced his wife Joy and announced that they are leaving tomorrow to go on a 16-day Viking Cruise, Holland Tulips and Windmills. It is their anniversary on April 1st. Dart was fined for not bragging for the number of years they have been married. Dart said it’s been a long time, 50 some years ago, it feels like he’s been in captivity! He bragged $10 and said Joy doesn’t usually give him that much money.
Milt Eaton introduced his new lady, Lucie Tingley, and said that he met her on a cruise and was introduced to her by her daughter.
Jerry Theberge briefly introduced Jennifer Scott, our speaker and he will have a more formal introduction later.
Gina Pattison introduced Bill Daley who will be rejoining the club as a member but is being welcomed as a visitor today.

Rich Carroll told a story about his son Matt who is a 1st grade teacher in Swanton. Last week Matt asked his students what they knew about Easter. One young boy said "that's when they staple that guy to the plus sign...the plus sign we learned in math".

ROTARY MINUTE
Frank LaGrande – Most North American plant species depend on insects, predominantly bees, for pollination. “Your whole food web is supported by bees,” says Dave Hunter, a member of the Rotary Club of Woodinville, Washington. The club leads a project that nourishes bees while beautifying the Seattle suburb. Members use donated wine barrels to construct planters to attract pollinators. Local businesses can sign up to have one placed at their storefront for a donation of $150 a year to the club’s foundation. The planters have QR codes that take visitors to information on the club’s website about the program and pollinator’s importance. “We are not just putting planters out; we’re educating through them,” says Hunter, proprietor of Crown Bees, which sells bees, bee houses, and other materials. The club also partnered with the city, businesses, a garden club, and a nonprofit organization to host a Pollinator Fest in May that attracted about 500 people to hear the latest buzz on bees.

Jennifer Ambler – During the massive snowstorm last Saturday it was decided that her new grandson qualified for being released from Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital. Jennifer was at a meeting in Woodstock and had the pleasure of bringing the precious cargo home. What should have taken 1 hour took 3 but they made it safely and everyone is fine.
Carla Lineback – Speaking of the topic of premature babies, her daughter was a preemie and Carla’s best friend also had a premature daughter. Even though they were 5 years apart they are like sisters. They had an overnight visit last weekend and because of the storm it turned into another overnight. It was so much fun to hear them giggling and having a great time.
Mark Anderson bragged for the Town of Brattleboro, Groundworks, Agency of Transportation, Agency of Human Resources, National Guard and Brattleboro Memorial Hospital for doing the lions share of the work for getting the emergency homeless shelter set up. It was the local partners that brought together a solution, Groundworks did a great job.
Dave Twombly bragged for his grandson Will. Will’s mother was talking to him about how Easter is on Sunday and then April Fools Day is the day after. Will commented that there were two holidays in a row.
Tom Franks bragged for Mark Anderson. Tom recently attended a webinar about the crisis with DCF and kids – there are not enough resources and no beds. In the webinar it was mentioned that there are two sheriffs that are really stepping up to help kids in need and Mark was one of them.
Gina said she didn’t have a brag, but she said her son was born prematurely also and it reminded her that he has recently been dealing with headaches and a sore throat. It was determined that he needed to have his wisdom teeth pulled. She learned yesterday that he has six wisdom teeth! That is not supposed to be hereditary, but Gina had 5 wisdom teeth, so maybe it is. Jack is having 4 teeth pulled next week and two next summer.

Jerry Theberge introduced Dr. Jennifer Scott. She is currently the Executive Director of Southern Vermont Area Health Education Center (AHEC), a nonprofit organization that enhances community efforts to grow and sustain the health workforce in southern Vermont.
She is a licensed and board-certified clinical psychologist and a well-established educator and administrator in the field of higher education. She has contributed to the fields of psychology and education with numerous presentations, publications, and professional service and has been recognized at the local and state levels for excellence in teaching and clinical practice.
Jennifer earned her doctorate in clinical psychology from Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH.
As a leader, educator, clinician, and advocate, Dr. Scott is committed to the education and training of students and young professionals, creating opportunities for all to succeed, and serving the needs of individuals, families, and communities.
She lives in Rutland and enjoys spending quality time with her family, connecting with friends, reading, hiking, and watching football.
Dr. Scott gave a very interesting talk about how the Area Health Education Center has engaged academic and community partners to improve the distribution, diversity, supply, and quality of the health workforce in Vermont, especially in our rural and underserved communities. They started in 1999 so this year they are celebrating their 25th anniversary. She mentioned that Jerry Theberge recently joined the Board of Directors.
After her talk, Jerry bragged for Jennifer and AHEC. Jerry had an intern, Eve Pomasi, at Professional Dental Care who came through AHEC who decided to go to dental school. She is in her second year of dental school at Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine on Long Island. They are hoping that she will return to Professional Dental Care.
