WELCOME

President Carla Lineback welcomed all to the October 17th meeting of the Brattleboro Rotary Club held at the American Legion in Brattleboro. For today’s invocation, Bill Vermouth offered the following quote by Mother Teresa:
“The fruit of silence is prayer, the fruit of prayer is faith, the fruit of faith is love, the fruit of love is service and the fruit of service is peace.”

This was followed by the pledge of allegiance. Birthday greetings were extended to Liz Harrison.

Guests: Past District Governor Rick Manganello, Assistant District Governor Steve Harrison, Visiting Rotarian Josh Traeger (Sunrise), Janet Manganello, and Julie Lineberger (speaker).
<ED NOTE: PDG Rick is here to tape episode 21 of Rotary Cares on PolioPlus.>

As a luncheon of baked chicken, pork cacciatore, Mexican corn medley, chickpea medley, rice, salad, rolls, and blondies for dessert was being digested, the meeting continued.

TRIVIA QUESTION

Polio cases have dropped by 99.9 percent, from 350,000 cases in 1988 in 125 countries to 33 cases of wild poliovirus in 2018 in how many countries?

 (Answer below.)

JOKE OF THE WEEK

For today’s joke, Marty Cohn told the following:

A little guy is sitting at the bar just staring at his drink for half an hour when this big trouble-making biker steps next to him, grabs his drink and gulps it down in one swig. The poor little guy starts crying.

"Come on man. I was just giving you a hard time," the biker says. "I didn't think you'd CRY. I can't stand to see a man crying."

"This is the worst day of my life," says the little guy between sobs.

"I can't do anything right. I overslept and was late to an important meeting, so my boss fired me. When I went to the parking lot, I found my car was stolen and I don't have any insurance. I left my wallet in the cab I took home.  I found my wife in bed with the gardener and my dog bit me.  So I came to this bar trying to work up the courage to put an end to my life..."

The biker is in total shock. He has no clue what to even say. "I'm very sorry, little man, it's been a very long day for you..." The biker motions the bartender for another pint.

"That’s not even the worst part--- Now you've shown up and drank the damn poison!"
