President Gina Patterson opened the meeting at our lunch meeting site: Heart Rose Club in the former Shriner’s building, Gina welcomed all to the February 29, 2024 meeting of the Brattleboro Rotary  www.brattlebororotaryclub.org

Gina let the club in a moment of silence for the loss of one of our area students.

Invocation:
John Meyer.  “When Paul Harris first conceived of Rotary, he may not have anticipated that Rotary would become the service organization it is today, or that we Rotarians would focus our efforts more on the community than on business relationships.  But here we are.

So may our efforts be blessed with insight guided by understanding and wisdom, and our service be respectful to all.  May our personal faiths give us strength to act honestly and fairly in all matters before us.  May our efforts at service above self, follow the 4-way test.”

Gina lead the club with the Pledge of Allegiance

PROGRAM
Guest Speaker:
PROGRAM

Speaker:

Rhonda Weingartner
Introduced by: Ron Stahley
Program:
Ron introduced the program.   Windham Regional Collegiate High School - 57 courses that the high schoolers can take at BUHS or the Career Center.

Told a joke - What do you call a little psychic person who has just escaped from prison – a small medium at large.

Ron put the program on the map.  Considered the premier program in the state.  Most people call it dual enrollment.

DE means any time a student is getting college and high school credit simultaneously.  The teacher has to be hired as an adjunct professor by the college.  The syllabus must cover at least 85% of the content that would be offered at the college.
The college then gives the credit when the student finishes.
Every student gets two vouchers to take 2 college courses for free.  Helps to reduce the debt that students finish college with.

150 of 204 seniors took at least one course this year.
