President Phil George welcomed all to the September 9, 2021, meeting of the Brattleboro Rotary Club held via ZOOM. <ED NOTE: 25 members + 2 guests = 27 attended.>. President Phil offered the following invocation:

The paths of our lives are filled with peaks and valleys. When we are on the top of our peaks, we become so self-satisfied that we tend to ignore the things of importance. When we are in a valley, we feel a sense of abandonment and again can focus only on what is directly ahead. Remind us, as You do in nature, that above the tree line the mountaintops are barren, and only in the valleys can we find the opportunity for true growth. Amen.

ED NOTE: Weekly assignments for the invocation or motivational thought can be found on the club website.>

This was followed by the pledge of allegiance.

Guests: Visiting Rotarian Josh Trager (Brattleboro Sunrise) and Rev. Nicholas Porter (speaker)

TRIVIA QUESTION

When was the Jerusalem Rotary Club founded?
Bonus question:  Which club was its sponsor?
(Answer below)

JOKE OF THE WEEK

For this week’s joke, George Anthes told a version of the following:

A man goes to prison and the first night while he's lying in bed contemplating his situation, he hears someone yell out, "44!" Followed by laughter from the other prisoners.
He thought that was odd, then he heard someone else yell out, "72!" Followed by even more laughter.
"What's going on?" he asked his cellmate.
"Well, we've all heard every joke so many times, we've given them each a number to make it easier."
"Oh," he says, "can I try?"
"Sure, go ahead."
So, he yells out "102!" and the place is dead quiet save for a few groans. Confused, he looks at his cellmate who is just shaking his head.
"Hey, what happened?"
"Well, some people can tell a joke, some people can't."
