President Gina Patterson opened the meeting at our lunch meeting site: Holiday Inn Express & Suites Brattleboro, an IHG Hotel, 100 Chickering Dr, Brattleboro, VT. Gina welcomed all to the June 20, 2024 meeting of the Brattleboro Rotary  www.brattlebororotaryclub.org

Invocation:
:  The poem the Dash by Linda Ellis
There are two important dates
around the life that we live
that reflect the time we're given
to laugh, to love,  to live.

And between the date when we arrive
and the date we go away,
there exists a horizontal line
that captures every single day.
XXXX - XXXX

Because these days we're living
seem to vanish in a flash,
we need to make the most of
that special little dash.

We are blessed with opportunities
as we tread the grounds of earth
to build the loving legacy
our own dash will be worth.
To focus on what matters,
not in possessions owned or bought,
and smile every chance we get,
and love with all we've got.
To appreciate the here and now
as each moment will unfold
because we're never told beforehand
how much time our dash will hold.

So, if you need to make some changes,
let this be the day you start
to live each moment here and now,
and show the love that's in your heart.

For how you spend this life
will someday be defined
by everything that is remembered
in the dash you leave behind.

JOKE OF THE WEEK - For our joke or song of the week:

Roger Miller - a joke about two couples - husbands in one room; wives in another room - First husband says, “my wife and I went to this new great restaurant last week”; other husband asked for the restaurant’s name, first husband couldn’t remember, but he said he has a method to trigger his memory-there’s a word, a flower that you usually see on Valentine’s day, frequently red - you mean a Rose? - “Rose what’s the name of that restaurant we ate at last week?”

FINES & Happy Dollars

Roger Allbee: He and his wife love to camp - they were at Half Moon State Park; they went to the battlefield that was the only battle fought in Vermont during the Revolutionary War. A great visit.
Jeanette White: Reminded that this Rotary donated to the Ledgewood Heights playground - this was installed and the playground is completely installed and kids love it.
Chris Hart: Had a great 30th Surprise anniversary celebration for George Karabakakis- he has done so much with the HCRS agency - it was a fun-filled time with his family present.
Mark Anderson: $5 brag for his 251st anniversary of his office - see the Sheriff’s facebook page for more interesting history of the county sheriff’s office
George Karabakakis - first thank Chris Hart - he was very surprised at his board meeting; brag- golfing at the tournament between the 8th and 13th hole - he lost his only glasses and they were found! brag and thank that person; golf tournament - On June 28th HCRS will have its own golf tournament and looking forward to it.
George Weir: Brag for Joan the Brave - his wife - he occasionally has bears - on Saturday morning, there were bears coming out of their shed and his wife was chasing it - even as it paused - she kept after it. Had what he thought was a very secure system for his barrel in his shed - the barrel on the next day the bear had tried again and apparently was successful. Brag for his wife who warned him and chased the bear away!
Bill Vermouth - Ran in the Vermont City marathon - he finished and ran with about 7000 runners; he was invited to another race to take the place of a 25 year old female -at registration the system wasn’t working, so he ended up being categorized as a 25 year old female and won 3rd female overall!
Nina Willson: Her daughter did the Girls on the Run 5K race - even with car sickness, she came in first for her team; also bragging for her son-he had a birthday on the last day of school and he is now the baby who is 8.
David Zuckerman: 3 days in a row has been farming super early trying to beat the heat; his child just graduated high school on Friday.

AND Announcements
Mara - Chris Hart was at the Gallery walk and sold 150 raffle tickets at a $1 / each; when Chris went out with a clipboard; Cindy and Chris and spouses - a brag and a thanks!
Mara - urges you to finish the redemption center clean outs from your garage - the money is still going to the Honduran branch of Pure water for the world - let’s start fresh for Rob’s Rotary year and finish strong for Gina’s Rotary year
Jenifer - she worked at the Brattleboro Brew fest on Memorial day weekend - no plan had been made for massive quantities at the end - Jenifer and friends scrambled to get loads of returnables to the redemption center and assigned them to Rotary.  She took the ones that wouldn’t be returned in Vermont - and took them to Maine to be credited to a hospice. Consider a Rotary project for the next BrewFest to load up the cans to take to Pure Water for the World.
Bill - proposes a fine for the administration - Pure Water for the World is stated for the purpose but it’s actually for the Honduran equivalent.
Greg - Saturday is the welcome center work - if you can sign up for providing goodies or volunteer, please look at the sign up.
Betsy - Cotton candy update - not tonight - we will do it again for the Food truck round up in July.
Gina - provided a reminder you can provide donations  to George Anthes as he is helping collect for Jerusalem Peacebuilders.
