Community Service History
The Brattleboro Rotary has a proud tradition of service to the community. While the work of the Gateway Foundation to provide college scholarships to deserving students is a signature activity of the club, as is the Pure Water for the World project, Rotary volunteers also pitch in where needed to provide better recreational opportunities . . . clean up our area environment and create green spaces for our residents and visitors . . . and beautify and improve housing facilities for seniors and lower income townspeople.
In recent years, Brattleboro Rotary Club volunteers made Living Memorial Park a better place for play and entertainment by:
- building a platform for the Band Shell,
building a deck and picnic area for the Kiwanis Shelter, and
repairing the ski rope tow.
Rotary volunteers:
- built skate board ramps at the Boys and Girls Club, which serves hundreds of area youth,
installed a handicapped-access ramp at Youth Services,
painted the porch of that building, and
replaced the roof at the Green Mountain Girls Camp.
Rotarians also:
- painted the interior of the Brattleboro Music Center,
built an animal shelter at the Retreat Farm operated by the Windham Foundation,
constructed a deck at the Brattleboro Country Club, and
cleared away brush and debris behind the River Garden on Main Street.
Brattleboro Rotary club members:
- painted the carport entrance at Holton Home, an assisted living facility,
built raised flower gardens at Hayes Court, which provides senior housing,
installed and painted wood siding at the Moore Court Bread Shed, and
painted the interior of the senior center.
In all of these activities, the Brattleboro Rotary Club aims to fulfill its mission of providing real service and a better environment for all of the members of the Brattleboro community.
